The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) on Sunday, April 8 assured passengers that the operations at the country's main gateway will remain "business as usual" despite the month-long power maintenance activities.

The power maintenance activities at Terminal 3 had already begun last April 2 and will last until May 28.

"The electrical upgrade activities from April 2 to May 28, 2024, shall not in any way impede the processing of passengers and baggage and shall have no disruptive effect on flight operations," MIAA General Manager Eric Ines was quoted saying in a statement.

He noted that the light and air conditioning in the terminal is available during the day.

MIAA earlier said that the power maintenance is aimed to replace deteriorated medium voltage switchgear components across its eight different electrical substations.

MIAA earlier said that maintenance shutdowns would be sectoral and would affect the open and multilevel parking, substations in the South and North concourses, and the main substation of Terminal 3

"Based on the schedule, replacement activities will only take from a short 15 minutes up to a maximum of three (3) hours, but will not extend into the departure or arrival times of the first flight of the day,” the MIAA statement read.

"The window hours for maintenance work will be from 12:01 am to 3 am," it added.

The south side of Terminal 3 will be affected by the maintenance activities, resulting in an observable reduction in lighting and air conditioning in the hallways and lobbies from the 1st to the 4th level of the terminal, staircases and certain offices located at the 2nd and 3rd levels.

Also affected is Terminal 3’s surface parking and multi-level parking, with some elevators and escalators located south of the terminal becoming inoperative during maintenance hours.

It also informed the riding public that generator sets are on standby for any "contingency during the conduct of maintenance works."
